VitisGen Genetic Center
The VitisGen Genetics Team will lead marker development and marker application for populations maintained and contributed by the VitisGen Breeding Team. To genotype samples, DNA will be isolated from the leaf samples provided by the VitisGen Breeding Team. Next, DNA samples will either be submitted for genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) or simple sequence repeat (SSR) marker analysis (see Genotyping Workflow). The resulting genotypic data will be used to develop linkage maps for each population and integrated with phenotypic data (see VitisGen Trait Evaluation Centers) to identify marker-trait associations. The results will be used for mapping and marker-assisted breeding, and will be reported back to the VitisGen Breeding Team to perform plant selection and determine future crosses.
An overview of Genotyping-by-Sequencing (GBS) can be found at the following website: http://www.maizegenetics.net/gbs-overview.
